I Met a Gay Couple
11:00PM.
I was hungry, so I went out around town and decided that since most places are closed, Denny’s will be a suitable choice for that late-night stuff-my-face urge I have for no apparent reason. After I ordered I stood like an idiot in the waiting area (the same place people wait to be seated), and was fortunate enough to be right next to a couple enjoying a conversation together.

Here are two solutions:
1. Don’t fuck random guys you meet.
2. Who the fuck cares?
People care because the idea that women who enjoy sex is what perpetuates sexism and rape culture. If a young, attractive girl who likes to party or is perceived to like to party gets raped, she is the one put on trial. Cops treat her like shit, encourage her to drop the...

StateHate: Sorry to rain on your pity parade, ladies, but I’m a man and I henceforth declare you NOT oppressed. In fact, if you dare point out the disadvantages women have compared to men - like maternity leave! Pfft! so much easier than working! - then you are a bunch of whiney (sic) babies!

Challenges of Gender Equality
My wife is a college student working toward becoming a high school teacher. When she finishes her degree, the plan was for her to work full time and me to stay home and take care of our baby and the house while finishing my graduate degree. In today’s world, this kind of behavior (stay-at-home fatherhood for a male-female relationship and both spouses taking a role in the development of children...

when some women in the western world think they’re “oppressed”
never mind the fact that i have the liberty of doing just about everything a man can do, such as voting, driving, getting an education, working a full time job… but nope, us women are still oppressed!

I suppose this is the end-result of living a life lacking education about the world around you.
Libyan Woman Struggles to Tell Media of Her Rape
“They say that we are all Libyans and we are one people,” said the woman, who gave her name as Eman al-Obeidy. “But look at what the Qaddafi men did to me.” She displayed a broad bruise on her face, a large scar on her upper thigh, several narrow and deep scratch marks lower on her leg, and marks that seemed to come from binding around her hands and feet.
She said she had been raped by 15 men. “I...

This is white privilege. Period.
I’m going to fucking throw up.
in the clip, a white kid uses a variety of tools, including a metal saw and even an electric saw with goggles to try to cut through the chain on a bike. most people walk by without caring, only one woman tries to follow up with the police. in the second part of the clip, an african-american...
How have advertisements affected you?
To get an idea of how subtly but powerfully advertising reaches into our brains, let’s play a game called ‘Name that Slogan’. Consider the list of slogans below.
Can you name the company that matches each slogan? JUST DO IT MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH, NOT IN YOUR HAND OBEY YOUR THIRST WE LOVE TO SEE YOU SMILE HAVE IT YOUR WAY EVERYWHERE YOU WANT TO BE IT’S ALL INSIDE CAN YOU...
Video Spotlight: Advertising's Image of Women →
In a stunning view of the world through the eyes of a girl, the Campaign for Real Beauty takes us on a rollercoaster ride of visual stimulation. As a man I think it is important for me to see things like this because it illustrates the power of the mass media all around me, and gives me an appreciation for the frustration my wife gets from time to time when trying on the perfect shirt or getting...

Video Spotlight: Advertising's Image of Women
This video is brought to us by mediaed.org, who produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical reflection on the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media. In Killing Us Softly 3, we see how women are objectified as objects of sex (sometimes not even the entire woman!) in the mass media. Another example of this objectification as...

Getting my license has got to be one of the best things to happen to me in a while. It makes me feel liberated, even though I lack ownership of a motor vehicle. I drove by myself for the first time, and fuck it feels nice to be able to put on my own music, not have to listen to someone in the…

Online College = You're Stupid
I’m utterly exhausted trying to explain how online college is perfect for someone who works full-time and is smart enough to know how to learn information by themselves. I don’t need someone to force-feed me knowledge in a classroom setting - I am perfectly capable of reading entire text books, taking notes, consulting with peers, and forming my own opinion of things vice regurgitating...

On Bureaucracy and Capitalism
When Alexis de Tocqueville went to America in 1831 to study conditions in prisons, he probably never thought his findings would become a classic study of democracy’s political and sociological structure (Nelson, 1996, p. 298). Perhaps most interesting about his work is that is was not only translated by political powers, but also by the successful entrepreneurs of the early 19th century looking to...

California Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced legislation today to repeal a law that denies federal benefits to same-sex couples.
When Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein voted against the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996, she said family laws are the responsibility of states, not the federal government. Now she’s introduced a bill to strike the law known as DOMA from the...

Generalization in Hypotheses
In researching societies and people, we want to find the meaning behind why people chose the courses of actions that they do. For example, we wouldn’t want to just figure out why Jesse Lawson is taking online college courses instead of brick-and-mortar courses, but why people in the military take college courses online vice in a classroom. This stepping back from the analysis of the individual and...
Tumblr, Attack!
So this was definitely a discussion post written by someone who got full credit for it in my Human Sexuality class. Tumblr, ready your fingers. It’s time to attack.

The first topic I want to talk about is something that I am having a hard time accepting as a member of the military. That topic is; Homosexuals being allowed...

Three Ways Sexuality is Still Suppressed
Since as long as historians have been writing about history, the battle for equality has been happening all around the world. For example, women have for many years resided in the shadow of their male counterparts, from Aristotle’s views of a woman as just an incomplete man (Greenberg, Bruess and Conklin, 2011, p. 17) to current legislation proposed by the Republican-led Congress to deny them the...

Does Mass Media Influence Socialization?
Here’s a fun fact: the combination of Dove moisturizing soap and Dove moisturizing lotion over the period of just two weeks will take off ten years from your face! Imagine what it would feel like to look ten years younger - to be back in your shoes ten years ago! Imagine: having your youth back! While I would love to say that this claim is true, I can’t speak to the authenticity of it....

Does this story indicate a problem with our understanding of what it means to be pro-life or just highlight our terribly problematic law? You decide:
A Nebraska woman says she was denied the ability to end her non-viable pregnancy because of a state law that bans abortions after 20 weeks based on the disputed notion that fetuses can feel pain.

Megyn Kelly vs. Anthony Weiner
Checking my Twitter feed I see something that catches me off-guard: a post by @exposeliberals stating this: “Slimy Anthony Weiner gets destroyed again by Megyn Kelly over Justice Thomas.” Having a lot of faith in Anthony Weiner to knock down the illusions of mass media’s grip on the complacent and uneducated, I couldn’t help but have mixed feelings of doubt. On one hand, I...
